Artist's Note: I model the East Broad Top as if it had continued as a common carrier into the 1980's. When the oil embargoes of the late 60's early 70's occurred, America was searching for a cheap but proven source of alternative fuel. Given its long track record, coal was chosen. The East Broad Top modernized, much like the White Pass and Yukon, using export locomotives of 3 foot gauge. The original steamers are kept for sentimental reasons, and for use during tourist season in the summer. They are also pressed into occasional revenue service during peak demand seasons.
